HBC stands unapologetically for the five fundamentals of the Christian faith — the non-negotiable truths that define Christianity. These are taught without compromise, and students are trained to understand why separation from those who deny them is both Biblical and necessary.

What We Believe
Our Convictions
These convictions shape every aspect of the training offered at Hawaii Baptist College — from the classroom to daily life on campus.
Distinctively Baptist
Students go beyond surface loyalty to the Baptist way, developing deep conviction that the Baptist way is the Bible way. They study Baptist history and why the local church is God’s ordained institution for His work today.
The King James Bible
Ko’olau Baptist Church uses the KJV in all of its ministries. It is the Bible used at HBC — in private study, in the classroom, and in English-speaking ministry contexts.
Biblical Ministry Methods
Students are trained to resist worldly pragmatism and pursue God’s methods — preaching, prayer, and personal witnessing. The power is in the Gospel, not in entertainment or gimmicks.
Christ-Honoring Music
Students are taught the value of music that glorifies God and edifies believers. Worldly music forms are addressed honestly, along with how to hold this standard without developing religious pride.
Fervent in Spirit
HBC aims to cultivate a genuine passion for prayer, Bible reading, and soul-winning. Students are trained not just to talk about witnessing, but to actually go and tell the lost about Christ.
The Family
Biblical family values are emphasized throughout a student’s time at HBC. Whether single or married, every student is equipped with God’s plan for the home — both for their own life and for ministry to others.
Love for the Brethren
Kindness, graciousness, and respect for fellow Christians are not optional — they are marks of discipleship. Students are expected to build relationships that last a lifetime and support one another in ministry.
A Vision for the World
Students are continually challenged to consider the unreached peoples of the world. Hawaii’s ethnic and cultural diversity gives HBC students unique exposure to cross-cultural ministry right on their doorstep.
Doctrinal Positions
Statement of Faith
The Bible is the sole final source of all that we believe. The following represents the key doctrinal positions of Ko’olau Baptist Church and Hawaii Baptist College.
The Holy Scriptures
The Bible is verbally and plenarily inspired, inerrant, infallible, and the final authority for faith and life. The KJV is the official translation used in all ministries.
Dispensationalism
Scripture reveals divinely ordered dispensations — not ways of salvation, but successive ages through which God directs man according to His purpose.
The Godhead
One Triune God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, and co-equal in power and glory.
The Person & Work of Christ
Jesus Christ is eternal God who became man through the Virgin Birth. He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross and His literal, physical resurrection. He now intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, regenerates believers, and indwells and seals them forever. He is the divine Teacher of Scripture and distributes spiritual gifts as God sovereignly determines.
Total Depravity of Man
Man was created in God’s image but fell in Adam. As a result, all men are born with a sinful nature, alienated from God, and utterly unable to remedy their lost condition on their own.
Salvation
Salvation is a gift of God received by personal faith in Jesus Christ. It is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone — and the believer is eternally secure in Him.
The Local Church
The local church is made up solely of born-again believers, is autonomous from external authority, and is God’s ordained institution for His work today. Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper are the only Scriptural ordinances.
Separation
All believers are commanded to live in a manner that honors Christ, with separation from religious apostasy, worldly practices, and sinful associations.
The Second Advent
Christ will personally and imminently rapture His Church before the seven-year tribulation. He will then return visibly with His saints to establish His Millennial Kingdom on earth.
The Eternal State
All men will be bodily resurrected — the saved to eternal life in glory, and the unsaved to conscious, eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire.
Creation
God created the universe in six literal, consecutive 24-hour days. Evolution, the Gap Theory, Day-Age Theory, and Theistic Evolution are rejected as false and unscriptural.
Human Sexuality & the Family
Intimate sexual activity is reserved exclusively for marriage between a man and a woman. God hates divorce and intends marriage to last for life.
Human Life
Human life begins at conception. The unborn child is a living human being, and abortion constitutes the taking of that life.
Missions
The church has been given the Great Commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. We must actively go to the foreign nations and not wait for them to come to us.
Stewardship
Every Christian is a steward of what God has entrusted to them and is obligated to support their local church through the tithe and cheerful, sacrificial giving.
